Oooh, it’s been a while since I last wrote a monthly favourites post, isn’t it? So, here are my top five beauty products from January 2016!
V05 Nourish My Shine Miracle Illuminator
In a nutshell: This is good value, makes your hair shiny, and doesn’t make it greasy. A winner, basically. I use this before I straighten my hair to tame the ends, and to add another layer of heat protection. I only need a little blob, despite having fairly long hair, and it helps my barnet to look like less of a frizzy mess. Also, it’s under a fiver, and it’s worth every penny in my opinion!
MAC Mehr Lipstick
A late contender to January’s favourites, as I picked this up in the last few days of the month. It’s from MAC’s Matte collection, but it’s surprisingly not drying at all. MAC describe the shade as ‘dirty blue pink’, which doesn’t really do it justice, does it?
After having loads of exams and deadlines in quick succession last week, I’d well and truly eyed this up as a treat for getting through them, while still remaining relatively psychologically-intact. I’ve been lusting after it for quite a while after Lily Pebbles mentioned it in several of her videos, and if you follow me on Instagram, you’d have seen just how pleased I was when I finally found it in stock.
So, I bought it a week ago, and I’ve worn it every single day since. I’m pretty smitten. Obviously, I’ll have to go back to MAC and purchase the matching lip pencil, Soar, now won’t I?
Loreal Extraordinary Facial Cleansing Oil
I’ve finally ditched the face wipes! After going to Boots in search of Una Brennan’s Superfacialist Vitamin C Cleansing Oil, and finding it was out of stock, this jumped out at me instead. It was on offer at £5.99, instead of the usual £7.99, so I thought I’d give it a whirl and see what difference it made to my skin.
Has it made a difference? I think it has. My skin, on the whole, has improved recently. It’s not been as spotty, it’s not been quite as dry either. And it doesn’t take very long at all for this oil to get rid of even the most stubborn of mascaras. I’m really pretty impressed by this. Also, you only need about three pumps to get rid of your entire face. (Just the makeup, that is.)
Manna Kadar Eyelash Primer
This arrived in my Glossybox months ago, and it’s one of those products that I would actually consider re-purchasing. You basically pop this on your eyelashes before applying mascara and it makes your lashes look SO good. It adds a lot more volume and lift, and for that reason alone, I love it.
You can also use it to condition your lashes while you’re sleeping, but I personally haven’t tried that. Mine’s nearly run out, and I’m now facing the dilemma (as a poor student) of whether I can justify spending £14.55 on a little tube of white stuff; just because it makes my eyelashes look better. (It’d be great if there was a dupe…) If you’re richer than me, try it – I’m sure you won’t regret it!
Lush Unicorn Horn
I ventured into Lush a couple of weeks ago in search of some calming bubble bars, to use before my exams. After receiving some sympathy from the lovely staff of Lush Derby, I left complete with Unicorn Horn and The Comforter.
And how can anyone possibly fail to be drawn to this awesome bubble bar? Seriously, look at it!
When I put it in the bath, it did look a little like I’d bludgeoned a unicorn to death, but nonetheless, it provided a blissfully bubbly and lovely-smelling bath. It’s also packed full of calming ingredients like lavender, ylang ylang, and neroli. Did it calm me? Yeah, definitely. Would I buy it again? Absolutely.
Have you tried any of these? What do you reckon? Let me know below!
