It’s results day again! So, I felt compelled to write a little letter to anyone who might be collecting their brown envelope of dread today.
Whatever happens today, it’s not the end of the world. I want you to remember that.
You might be over the moon with your results, you might be disappointed, or you may even be somewhere in-between.
But, just remember: It’s not the end of the world.
The events of today aren’t final. It doesn’t have to be ‘over’.
If you’re not headed where you want to be, there are other ways of getting there. Don’t be defeated or disheartened. You will get there, eventually.
If you’re not a straight A student, if you’re not one of the ‘clever kids’ being pestered by newspaper photographers and television crews to feature on the news, if you’re just not expected to do well – it doesn’t matter.
It might not feel like it right now, but years down the line, this day’ll mean nothing to you.
If you’re trepidatiously peeling open that brown envelope today, if you’re dreading what might happen next, if you’re comparing yourself to everyone else (and beating yourself up because you feel like you can’t compete) – It will get better.
You did your best, and that’s all you can do. If it wasn’t ‘enough’ then it doesn’t mean that your life is over.
Let’s face it, today is just one day. All this stress and worry will be over tomorrow.
Whether you got the grades you wanted or not, there are millions of options out there; a multitude of opportunities waiting for you to come and grab them. So, go and get them! (What are you waiting for?)
Just in case I haven’t already drilled it into you…
…Whatever happens today, it’ll all be okay.
