Am I the only one who finds the fact that October starts on a Monday strangely satisfying?
Blogtober![pipdig_padded_text]The cat’s out of the bag! I’m doing Blogtober again this year. (What am I letting myself in for?)
I did Blogtober for the first time back in October 2016. It’s where you write a blog post every day for the entire month, if you didn’t already know, which is harder than it sounds, trust me. (Incidentally, you can read over the posts I wrote back then here!)
So, it’s been in the pipeline since last month. I’ve tried to be a bit more organised than last time, though.
A couple of weeks ago, I collated a colour-coded editorial calendar in an Excel spreadsheet (because I’m a massive saddo.) And I’ve been chipping away at those posts ever since, purely to give myself the head start I didn’t have last time. I did say I was cheating a bit. [/pipdig_padded_text]
Go Easy On Myself[pipdig_padded_text]This is probably a bit contradictory to the first goal, really, isn’t it?
I’m always being too hard on myself, and never give myself a break either. And I find this time of year particularly difficult. The increasing darkness, the clocks going back, the trees and flowers dying off for the winter, the weather turning – It all depresses me a little.
So, I want to try to be a little kinder to myself and make time for things like self-care, instead of being a Negative Nelly who doesn’t look after herself properly every day.[/pipdig_padded_text]
Implement A Proper Wind Down Routine[pipdig_padded_text] This is a bit like the last point, but I never get enough sleep. My evenings are usually spent at my desk, either working on the blog. (No, really.) Or video editing.
So, I’m always in a ‘work’ frame of mind right up until the minute I lay down in bed. Which, surprise surprise, isn’t conducive for a good night’s sleep.
I’ve already started making progress by leaving my phone to charge on the other side of my room in the evenings, and by switching it off completely (shock horror!) a couple of hours before bed. I leave it downstairs overnight too. It makes it easier to wake up, because I don’t just roll over and scroll like I used to!
But if I could actually relax as well, and make time for winding down before bed, it’d be lovely. (And I might not find myself wandering the streets of Derbyshire looking like a sleep-deprived Zombie all the time.) [/pipdig_padded_text]
Update The Blog Shop![pipdig_padded_text]Did you know this blog has a shop? I probably didn’t shout about it loud enough, did I? Apologies.
Here’s the shop, if you’ve never had a nosy before. (Shameless plug.)
I’m quite bad at forgetting to update it when something pretty catches my eye, or when I see something I’d love to recommend to you lovely readers. So, that’s on the cards this month too. (Will I ever get away from the ol’ desk? We’ll see…) [/pipdig_padded_text]
What’s on your to-do list this October?
