It feels like we need a bit of a catch-up! How are we at the start of May already, by the way?
Katie Writes has been quite quiet recently, hasn’t it? Sorry about that. I have been working away in the background and I’ve been working on something pretty new too…
I started a new blog – well, kind of
First things first, it won’t have any impact on this blog, don’t worry! (Not that you were, I’m sure.) But, do you remember The Weekend Edition? Probably not. It’s a blog I started back in 2016, and a couple of friends joined me to write a few posts. Well, after struggling along for a while, I decided that it wasn’t working, and eventually I came up with an idea for something brand new that I could manage by myself.
It’s a long story, and I’ve written a longer post on there that has all the deets, if you’re honestly interested. But, it was taking a lot of time and effort and money to keep running as it was, and there were constant technological problems which led to me resenting it a little. I had to make some changes to make it work for me, including a total re-brand and new (much clearer) direction, so Derbyshire Delights is now a thing!
I love writing about my home county, and I’m aware that that’s either of no interest or totally irrelevant to a lot of you, so the majority of my Derbyshire-based ramblings are going to be all over there now. There are going to be food & drink bits, travel bits, and a lot more exploring my beautiful home county. So if that’s what you’re into too, you know where to go now!
I also want it to feel a bit like old-school blogging. Those halcyon days where a phone snap would suffice. Where things didn’t feel too magazine-like and glossy and polished. Where 100 words without any regard for SEO would do too. I might be shooting myself in the foot entirely by doing it in this way. But it’s more of a passion project for me, as trite as that sounds? I’m doing it for enjoyment purposes, not because I want it to become a job (or a chore) or something else equally ridiculous. Basically, the opposite of what blogging today, in general, has become.
So, if it sounds like your cup of tea, you can find Derbyshire Delights here!
Did I achieve my April Goals?
Here are my April Goals, if you missed them.
Did I venture up to the Peak District? Nope. It was on the cards, but a recent bout of bad insomnia (I’m blaming the continuing stress of everything pipdig-related) meant that I had to cancel my plans to pop up to Castleton last weekend. (I decided that wandering around the Peak District in a Zombie-like state wasn’t the best idea.) I definitely will go, though!
Did I carry on working on the blog? Yes, I did. There’s still a way to go, but I’ve been beavering away in the background all the way through April.
And as for ‘living in the moment’? Well, I haven’t been venturing onto Instagram as much over the last month, and I have been taking breaks whenever I feel like it. I do feel better for it, but it does mean that the algorithm appears to hate me more than ever because of it.
Lastly, self-care – Did I look after myself well in April? Not particularly, if we’re being honest. It’s been a tough, anxiety-ridden, stressful month, and even though self-care would’ve been the perfect antidote to this, it’s harder than ever to implement when you’re struggling the most, isn’t it?
A playlist from April
Like usual, there are quite a few oldies thrown in, with some newer melodies weaved in too! And again, just like my other monthly playlists, there’s a song for each day of the month. (Oh, and I couldn’t resist chucking in a bit of Celine Dion to celebrate the fact all three Bridget Jones films are now on Netflix…)
