This post is so overdue! I meant to take a couple of weeks away from blogging, and that turned into nearly two months. Apologies. So, let’s try and get back into the swing of things a little with this post. This blog turned six at the start of June. I’m not entirely sure how it’s six years since I started rambling on the Internet, but here we are.

I know, I know, there’s something incredibly self-indulgent about celebrating blog birthdays. Please humour me, like you’ve done every June for the past few years.

I’d be lying if I said that blogging was the same as it was when I tentatively pressed ‘publish’ on that first foundation review in June 2014, but I won’t bore you with all of the changes that blogging has gone through in that time. (Mainly because I’ve already bored you about it many times before!)

I can’t promise I’ll be at this for another six years – we might well have holographic influencers and stuff by then (who knows?) – but I’ll be sticking around for the foreseeable. Anyway, moving on to something more important…

Let’s talk about BLM

I decided to hold off publishing this post on 3rd June, partly because it just didn’t feel appropriate to talk about things that are pretty inane and shallow, in the grand scheme of things, when such terrible things are happening in the world.

I haven’t mentioned BLM and anti-racism online until now, because I’ve had a social media break and digital detox since my last blog post in May. But I’d like to stress that this doesn’t mean that I haven’t been putting in the work behind the scenes. I’m learning, I’m educating myself, and most importantly, I’m listening.

In all honesty, I’m always aware of the fact that I’m a minuscule fish in a vast ocean of bloggers & influencers, so it’s easy to assume that no-one cares what I have to say. It’s easy to underestimate your own voice and power, I guess. Frankly, I felt unable to find the words to give this serious situation the justice that it deserves, and so I wanted to share with you instead some links to some really informative blog posts and articles that’ve come in useful for me over the past few weeks:

  • Here are some ways in which you can help, if you haven’t already.
  • I Want You To Know has a great list of 20 black female influencers to follow on Instagram.
  • From Roses has put together a great post full of resources here.
  • There’s also a pretty comprehensive post from Zoella here.
  • Daisybutter has a great post here.
  • In The Frow has a list of 101 black-owned businesses to support.
  • This Vogue article is useful and easy to understand.
  • This fantastic post from Alice Catherine has lots of resources on how to diversify your feed.
  • Sophia Rosemary’s written a great post here too.

Before my impromptu blogging break, I wrote several blog posts, which I’ll be finishing up as soon as possible.

And, before I go, thanks for reading for the past six years!

(In case you were wondering, the photos are from a recent trip to the park at Chatsworth House. I haven’t really been snapping away of late, thanks to lockdown, so they’re some of the only photos I’ve got!)
